Quilt Prep and Shipping
This information is provided so you will not have any additional prep charges.
For most quilts that are square
or rectangle you only need to make sure that the squared Backing (or lining) and the Batting is 3-4" larger than the quilt top. If
you have an unusual shape of quilt top such as wavy edges, round edges (double wedding ring) then the quilt top will need to have
fabric added to make it straight so it can be pinned to the leaders.
- If your backing is exactly the same size as the quilt top
or
just a little larger (1-2 inches) you will need to add 4-inch - 6-inch strips of muslin to all 4 sides of the quilt backing fabric.
- Press
all new seams (from steps 1) toward the outside of the quilt.
- Trim threads
so they don’t show through any light fabrics.
- Press
the quilt top
so the patterns lay as flat as possible. Check to see if you have any dark fabric showing under light fabric edges (if
so trim 1/16 off the dark fabric).
- Press the backing fabric.
(Backing fabric that has seams must not contain selvage edges.) If you
need to put seams in the backing fabric first remove all selvage edges then if possible make a half-inch seam and press the seam open.
- If
there is a direction to your quilt (top or bottom) please safety pin a piece of paper indicating the top of the quilt and/or the top
of the backing fabric.
- If you have a pieced back or a certain pattern or panel on the back and want it to be centered on the quilt
top please make sure that information gets included with the order.
- Do not put any other pins in the quilt top or backing fabric
.
- Think
about what color thread and what type pattern you might like on the quilt. Do you like the look of dense quilting or more Open quilting?
As a general rule we use the same color thread on the top and in the bobbin. The exception being variegated threads.
- Place quilt top
and backing fabric in a plastic bag before shipping.
- The quilt will be returned using the customer’s preferred shipping service and
all shipping charges and insurance will be paid by the customer.
* Note: If you have added oversized borders that can be trimmed you
do not need to add the muslin strips. If your fabric backing is oversized (minimum of 2 inches larger than the quilt top on all four
sides Example: Quilt top 80" x 100" then the Backing fabric needs to be at least 84" by 104") you do not need to add the muslin strips.
